History of The Williamson Eye Institute
The Early Years
Dr. Williamson was born and raised in Lafayette, Indiana, where he spent much of his time helping his father on the farm. Dr. Williamson received his undergraduate education from Indiana University. He then entered IU's Medical School in 1967 where he served as president of his class and graduated in the top 15% in 1971. After completing all post-graduate work and his residency in 1975, Dr. Williamson returned to Lafayette, Indiana to start a full time private practice in ophthalmology.
New Location: Comfort and Convienence
Dr. Williamson moved to his new spacious location in 1997, which connects to his outpatient surgical center called Advanced Surgery Center. By opening the surgery center next door to the office, Dr. Williamson has made it very convenient and hassle-free for his patients to receive the BEST care in one location.
Refractive Services
In 1997 Dr. Williamson expanded his expertise to include LASIK (Laser in-Situ Keratomileus), another form of Laser Vision Correction. In the fall of 1999, Dr. Williamson purchased his own VISX STAR S2 Excimer Laser and began offering LASIK to his patients. In an effort to continue to be on the cutting edge of laser technology, the eximer laser has been upgraded to the most current VISX STAR S4 Excimer Laser. The new laser features Custom Vue technology and iris registration for a more personal approach to your visual needs.
New Doctors Expand Expertise
Dr. Christine Bolton joined Williamson Eye Institute in early 1999. Dr. Steven Virata and Dr. Gena Kidd joined Williamson Eye Institute in 2001 to add fellowship-trained vitreoretinal and corneal specialists, respectively. The TEAM of Williamson Eye Institute is dedicated to quality patient care and service. We strive to put the needs of our patients first so they will feel comfortable and receive the EXPERIENCED eye care they deserve.
