Conditions for Email Communication

• Email is not to be used for medical emergencies. Dr. Virata generally checks his email daily, but there may be circumstances in which you do not receive an immediate reply.
• Although we take every precaution to make sure the email information is secure and abide by the current HIPAA privacy policy, it is impossible to guarantee that information sent by email cannot be intercepted by a third party. Because of this, please assume that it is not secure, and do not disclose any information you would consider confidential. This type of information can be discussed privately later in an office situation.

If You Are Not A Patient of Dr. Virata

• Due time and medico-legal constraints, Dr. Virata may not be able to reply to all email or phone inquiries. Local ophthalmologists including retina specialists can be found on the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists website.
• Any replies from Dr. Virata will be limited to general medical advice because a comprehensive dilated eye examination is critical to ophthalmologic diagnosis.
